Job Description.

Outpost is on the lookout for a skilled and forward-thinking Staff Data Scientist, Foundations, to become a key part of our expanding team.

In this position, you’ll design and build core data science models and algorithms that support critical business decisions and enhance operational performance. You’ll collaborate with teams across the organisation to ensure our data efforts are aligned with strategic goals and help drive long-term success.

Day-to-day

  • Build and deploy reliable data science models to solve important business problems.

  • Design experiments to test and refine model performance for better outcomes.

  • Work with engineering and product teams to embed models into real-world applications.

  • Conduct in-depth data analysis to reveal trends, patterns, and insights for strategic planning.

  • Provide mentorship and support to junior team members, sharing knowledge and best practices.

  • Present complex findings to stakeholders in a clear, concise, and actionable way.

  • Stay up to date with the latest tools, technologies, and techniques to strengthen data science efforts.

  • Maintain high standards for data quality, security, and integrity across the entire workflow.

Qualifications

  • Master’s or Ph.D. in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related discipline.

  • Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in data science, particularly in developing core or foundational models.

  • Strong programming skills in Python or R, with proficiency in libraries such as TensorFlow, Scikit-learn, or similar.

  • Solid understanding of statistical analysis, machine learning techniques, and predictive modelling.

  • Familiarity with big data tools and platforms like Hadoop or Spark is a plus.

  • Demonstrated success in deploying data science models into live production systems.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, especially with complex and open-ended challenges.

  • Clear and confident communication skills, capable of translating data into actionable business insights.

  • Experience working collaboratively within cross-functional teams.
